Monster Buster Fishing Reports '08
January 1, 2008.

A new year starts and dreams of a good catch are on our minds.  With the cold weather earlier than last year, reports from Simcoe are good as the ice is about 4" - 5" already.

Things sound promising.

Post Script - (Feb 19th)  Still haven't got out. - HMMMM!

Steve and I made our first trip to Lake Simcoe.  Last minute decision had us cut off at Hwy 89 and we stopped at Innisfil Live Bait and Tackle, corner of Hwy 89 and Yonge St.  Spoke to (will update later), who provided us with some good info.  We drove north on Yonge St to Innisfil Road, then right all the way to Innisfil each Park.  As this was March 15th, many hut owners were out there pulling their huts off.  With all the other vehicles out there, we drove out in the truck.  Make life really easy.  We set up in 22' fow and work the area punching a few holes shallower (16')and deeper (40').  Ice was still about 24' thick between the packed snow and ice.  Picked up 4 nice perch with a few smaller ones released.  Although it was nice sunny afternoon, the wind was from the MW and was still pretty cool.  Maybe next weekend.   (pictures on the Pictures Aug 2008 page)

Sean and I made a second run to Innisfil Beach, Lake Simcoe.  Another beautiful sunny day with a cool NW wind.  The lake was covered with solid ice , no snow.  The warm weather, rain in the earlier part of the week, then freezing temps in the later part took care of the ice.  We walked out to the same spot as last week.  Not many people out this week.  The ice was fairly solid all the way through, about 20".  After about an hour of nothing, I went back to shore to get the truck.  Met a chap in the lot you said they did well about 40'.  We moved over to his spot and had quite a few, mostly under my keeper size but did keep 4.  We fished from 12:30 to 18:00.  I guess well need to start bringing the sun screen as we both have a bit of sun and wind burn.  If this weather keeps up, the marina might not open in time so there might be a couple more weekend runs.    (pictures on the Pictures Aug 2008 page)

Couz and I made our annual run to Temagami.  We must be getting older as we spent more time gossiping and catching up on old news than fishing.  Needless to say, we had a enjoyable weekend, some good times but no fish.  I think I'm going to call this our annual get together instead the annual ice fishing run.

Like I had said, it was a very pleasant weekend.     (pictures on the Pictures Aug 2008 page)
