Monster Buster Fishing Reports '09
Looks like our buddy Rick made the fishing report
first. Cindy and Rick took a January trip to
Puerto Vallarta and did some fishing around El Moro and Islas Marientas and
hooked it some dorado and rooster fish . More of the local report "Pangas
reported large catches of Spanish Mackeral which kept anglers busy and the
dorado action was plentiful out farther in the blue water".
I know Rick said he was hoping to get out
and try some local fishing. Looks like he had a good trip.

Dennis and I made the first ice fishing run for '09. It was a
beautiful sunny day with temps around -10. We trekked out from the
Innisfil Beach boat ramp and headed out to 40 fow and set up by about 09:45.
Ice was a good 5" - 6". With little action, we headed out to 52 fow
where we only fished with one rod each. It was steady for about the
next two hours. As the temp was still cool, I set the hut up and we
fished inside for the next couple of hours. We broke camp at 15:00 and
headed back in. The days take was 29 nice perch with about the same
amount goin
g back in the water to fight another day. Just one of those
nice days. Hope this is a signed of the year to come.

We'll see if we can repeat next Sunday.
Cousin Iggie and I made our annual (not) ice fishing excursion February 7th
to 9th. My drive up was very good, dry all the way to North Bay but
Igor's was a little tougher. He encounter 2 tractor trailer accidents
due to the freezing rain and ice. He finally arrived about 6 pm.
I had already pulled my hut out and had a line down in front of the cabin.
We decided to relocate for this year and went to Wilson Lake Cabins
http://kim.www2.onlink.net/ and met Marilyn and Jerry.
It was a good location and as we were down to the one day of fishing, we
went out on Sunday an found our spot and started fishing 1:30 pm. I
was a beautiful sunny day but cool, about -12'. The previous day would
have been warmer. We set the hut up on 20 fow and two lines outside,
onw in 10 fow and the other in 25 fow. As it was a bit cool, I fired
up the heater and zipped the doors. While we were having some good
conversation, catching up on current events, we were clean off twice on the
shallow line and once on the deeper line, In the end, we maintained
our perfect, zero for ?. Lost track. Anyway, we had good
conversation, good food and good drinks, so the weekend was a success.
Here are a few pics of the trip.

Anyway, I guess we'll have to wait until next year.
Cousin Igor and Debbie make an early spring run to an undisclosed lake.
It looks like it was a "roughing it" trip. I don't see any satellite
dishes and other amenities. I know for many, if the spouse was
asked to go, the reply would be "...you want me to stay where?....".
My hat i
s off to you Deb. From the fish pics, it
looks like the rip was a success.
Cuz, I'm green with envy. Nice run.

Kristen, Sean and I took off on a rainy afternoon for a quick run as they needed
to be back in Hamilton by 4 pm. We ran out almost to the River and trolled
around working our way back to the Canal. It was a bit choppy but Kristen
handled the troll like a true fisherwoman. As they needed to get back to
Hamilton, we were going break lines at 2:30. Just before 2:30, the first
and only fish strikes. While Sean and I break lines, Kristen reels in her
first LO fish, a small king. Next time it will be that 30 pounder.
Good job Kristen. Remember, next time, 30 lbs.
Girls Day Out - Well the boys wanted to get some
fishing in, so with Mom working days, we took off to the trailer with the
14' boat in tow. Lisa, Steve and I made a couple off stops for food
and tackle. Kristen and Sean were already waiting at the trailer.
Lisa, and Steve took off in the 14' boat and Kristen, Sean and I went out
for the salmon on the Monster Buster. Shortly after the set up, the
first fish hit and hit hard. The fish took a couple hundred yards of
line leaving Sean concerned about it spooling the reel. With a long
fight and a bit of assistance from Sean, Kristen pulls in her first 20 lb
plus fish, a nice 24 lb king. After a couple of more releases and
small king boated, we pulled up the rods and headed in to make some supper.
After supper at the trailer, Kristen and Sean took off for a party back in
Hamilton. Lisa, Steve and I packed up in the Monster Buster and went
out for a evening run. Trolling in out usual spot, between the Canal and
Niagara River, we hit a small king, a slightly larger king and then a nice
king. Lisa had a good fight as it took a while to get in and had a few
runs near the boat. At the end, Lisa landed a nice 20 lb king.

Solo Run Day - I went out for a mid day run on a hot sunny
August day. LO was like glass. Set up in 80 fow and worked out
to 180 fow and back in. Ran riggers between 42' and 65' chasing the
few marks on the graph. First release came off the top rigger, 52' but
the fish threw the hook after a few had shakes. The second came off
the same rigger at 48'. This was a good fish. Snapped the other
line and got that rod out of the way. After a good fight, there was a
23 lb. king in the cooler, Reset the rods changing the other to match
the black Spin Doctor and green fly. The third release came off the
63' rigger and a nice 10 lb. bow was in the box. The water was a
challenge as the temps were constantly changing up and down. After 2
hours of dealing with the hot sun but nice breeze, I decided to pack it in
(only brought my coffee cup, getting thirsty).
Overall a nice relaxing day.
